Like identity card of each person, chemical composition is the only feature that identifies the specification of material. Lots of steel alloys could be forged, such as 1035 steel, 1045 steel,1020steel, 20CrMnTi, 20Cr, 40Cr, Q235, Q345, 20CrMo, 30CrMo, 35CrMo, 42CrMo, ect. For steel forgings, spectrum analysis is the most widely used method to do material inspection.
At CFS Forge, we have a spectrometer in house directly for testing the chemical composition of steel forgings we made. With the help of in-house spectrometer, we can get accuract testing result shown the composition of each element contained. Comparing the test result with standard compositions of the metal, if the value of each element content is within the range, then it proves the material of finished steel forgings are qualified.
As one of the top steel forging companies in China, material inspection of one of the main procedures for us to do quality control. Maybe you will ask how we do inspection of material?
Firstly, when ordering round bars from a material factory, we will ask for the material certification of the specification we purchased. And before the materials are delivered into warehouse, we will first cut a small piece to analysis if the material composition are within the specified range. Only approving our testing, could the material be used in production.
Secondly, with the workforce of high pressure under high temperature, the grain of forged steel will be refined and the strength of products will be increased. So, after forging, we will cut a small piece from the forging blank to analysis if there is any change of material composition, and record the testing result accordingly.
All the testing results will be shown in a material report. In the report, you can see the material specification, quantity of samples, part number, each element, defined limits, testing value of each element, tester, ect. According to the report, we will give our customer a final judgment if our material is good. This material report will be sent by email or delivered to our customer together with samples. Of course, when mass production, each batch of steel forgings need to pass chemical analysis. This single summary makes it clear which alloy elements comprise a given production batch and whether this complies with the specification.
At CFS Forge, the spectrometer is linked to a computer. The reports are stored on the network so that the information is always available. Proper archiving of this information ensures the traceability of your product. Furthermore, we can also provide other testings for steel forgings, such as dimensional testing, hardness testing, as well as NDT testing. All these inspections will confirm a good quality product for our customers.
